CHORAL CLASSICS COME TO SUNNYBANK
Brisbane audiences will have the chance to hear up-and coming opera stars performing with one of Australia’s finest choirs, The Queensland Choir, at a new venue at Sunnybank on Saturday, April 29.
Award-winning Conservatorium students Annika Hinrichs and Christopher McNee will join forces with the choir to sing Choral Classics by Mozart and Handel, exciting opera choruses by Rossini and Smetana, and selections from musical comedy and popular songs including African and Spanish folk songs at the Sunnybank Performing Arts Centre.
“Much of our program on April 29 will be music familiar to everyone,” says The Queensland Choir’s renowned conductor Kevin Power, OAM.“There are excerpts from our great classical repertoire but there will also be lighter songs and a few surprises as well. We are sure there will be something for everyone to enjoy.”
Founded almost 150 years ago, The Queensland Choir has played a major role in the state’s musical life and is made up of volunteer choristers from Brisbane and surrounds. Highlights of this year’s performances by the choir will include The Messiah at Brisbane City Hall, Mozart’s Requiem in St Stephen's Cathedral and the Australian Premiere of Dan Forrest's Requiem for the Living in St John’s Cathedral.
The April 29 concert will also feature a tribute to the men and women of Australia who have served our country at war and whom we remember this Anzac Day week.
CHORAL CLASSICS will take place on Saturday, April 29, at 7.30pm, in the SunPAC Auditorium attached to the Sunnybank Community and Sports Club, 470 McCullough Street, Sunnybank. Bookings for the concert can be made via the SunPAC website www.sunpac.net.au or by calling the SunPAC Box Office on (07) 3323 9650.
