Spring Serenade Sunday September 3rd, at 2.30pm
Manly-Warringah Choir and Orchestra's concert, Spring Serenade, will be conducted by the highly esteemed and much loved conductor Dr Carlos Alvarado, with 3 soloists including the widely acclaimed Anita Kyle, in the inspiring surroundings of the Cardinal Cerretti Chapel, Manly.
Schubert's "Mass in G", written at the age of 18, is a delightful work, enjoyable not only in its own right, but also in anticipating the genius which Schubert was to show in his later works. Elgar's renowned "Serenade for Strings", equally delightful, is also an early piece, but although Elgar had broad musical experience and ambitions, he only came to composing in his 30's.
In Misa Criolla, the Argentinian composer Ramirez, set the text of the Mass in Spanish to music featuring beguiling dance rhythms of his native country.
The concert concludes with songs from South America and Cuba, continuing the catchy rhythms and quirky harmonies of Misa Criolla. For this part of the programme, we will be accompanied by Los Inkas, a band whose members come from Equador, Peru and Bolivia; they will be performing with traditional instruments.
After the concert, performers and audience will join together for complementary drinks and light refreshments on the terrace outside the Chapel. What better way to celebrate Fathers' Day?
