The Austrian Choir Canberra was formed in 1981 and is a highly respected choir and major force in the promotion of Austrian culture and music in Canberra and Australia. As well as the very successful concert tours of Austria (2007), Germany and Austria (September 2010) and Italy, Switzerland and Austria (September 2013): the choir celebrated its 25th anniversary at the Canberra School of Music in 2006 with a very well received concert.
As a member of the German Choral Association, the Choir is very privileged to be hosting the triennial Saengerfest (singing festival) in Canberra from 4-7 October 2014. There will be 22 choirs from all over Australia participating. The massed choir concert (of approximately 500 choristers) will be held at the ANU School of Music, Llewellyn Hall on Saturday 5 October 2014.
The choir rehearses every Wednesday night at 7.00pm at the Austrian-Australian Club (5 Mount Evans St) in Mawson, Canberra. The Musical Director is Geoff Roberts.
We always welcome new singers to join this vibrant choir. No audition is required - just a love of a broad spectrum of music and an ability to sing in German as well as English.
