Professional development of a high standard for your choral conducting, with
understanding of the voice and new rehearsal techniques. Major leaders are
Dr Heather Buchanan, USA/AUST and Paul Holley OAM, AUST, together with a
great additional team of leaders.
Heather is Professor of Music and Director of Choral Studies at Montclair
State University, New Jersey, at which she conducts ensembles from the
24-voice Chamber Choir to the 170-voice Concert Choir. She works in
collaboration with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, with a dance company,
and with composers of new works. She is a body-mapping expert and will use
this knowledge to outline breathing for singing and the mind-to-gesture
process used in conducting.
Paul is Director of Music at Brisbane Girls' Grammar School, conductor of
the young male-voice ensemble The Birralee Blokes and of the youth Resonance
of Birralee, and is Co-conductor of Gondwana Chorale. He will share his
expertise in conducting gesture, in boys singing through their voice change
and in successful repertoire for young men.
There will be daily warm-up sessions taken by Mark Puddy, for adding to
resources and skill, music reading from the package of complimentary works,
an introduction to the choral music of Joseph Haydn and his brother Michael,
and a forum of leaders on rehearsal techniques.
A major focus will be on conducting tuition in 5 small-group sessions and in
in 2 masterclasses. Entry level skill may be basic, intermediate or
advanced, and all will be catered for with group members of similar skills.
