As well as a musical career that stretches for over 40 years as a songwriter, arranger and choir director, Anders is best known in Australia for the Oscar nominated film he co-wrote - As It Is In Heaven. This was a musical and cultural phenomenon in the Australian choral scene and beyond. As It Is in Heaven was screened at The Hayden Orpheum in Sydney for 103 weeks making it one of the longest-running films in Australian film history. His work is likewise well known and loved in the Victorian choral scene, notably Freedom is Coming - Songs of Protest and Praise from South Africa

Nyberg confesses that despite being an alumni of the Royal Music Academy of Stockholm, his greatest musical teachers and inspirations come from the local folk musicians of his native Malung, Sweden and from his adopted home country of South Africa. Musical expression and creation acting as a cultural bridge between the North and the South has become a life vocation for this unique musician - “with one ear in Northern Europe and the other in Southern Africa”.

Over a Friday night and two full days on Saturday and Sunday, you will be immersed in learning and singing musical styles that range from Swedish, African and contemporary with Anders Nyberg as your guide, as well as being treated to a talk on the writing and production of As It Is In Heaven.

For the workshops Nyberg will be supported by renowned Melbourne Choir Director Sue Johnson.

The workshop will be held in the Linen Room of the famous Abbotsford Gardens.  Just four kilometres from Melbourne’s CBD and spread over 16 acres, the Abbotsford Convent – with its 11 historical buildings and gardens – is Australia’s most beautiful arts precinct, right on the banks of the Yarra River. The Convent is home to over 11 Historical buildings, two galleries, cafes, and more in one of the most beautiful green spaces in Melbourne.

“To "conduct" literally means "bring together" or "channel”… it is about listening intently and hearing a more beautiful sound than you've ever heard before.“  Anders Nyberg
