Holy Name of Mary church (Villa Maria), 1 Mary St, Hunters Hill

Adults $25.00, Concession $20.00

Our 2017 Christmas concert will be very much in the Joubert Singers tradition, as it includes a variety of traditional and contemporary carols from around the world, as well some well-known favourites with audience participation.  The choir will also highlight excerpts from one of WA Mozart’s best known and most popular works, the Vespers. This work includes the glorious Laudate Dominum, which has one of the most lyrical soprano solos ever written, to be sung by our famous local soprano, Emilie Lemasson.

Mozart’s wonderful Vesperae Solennes de Confessore, (K. 339) was the last liturgical work he wrote before leaving Salzburg. It combines deep spirituality with an operatic feeling for drama, and Mozart’s profound understanding of the human voice, for both soloist and choir. The choir will also sing some classic Christmas carols, such as Once in Royal David’s City, the Australian Carol of the Birds, and a special Away in a Manger. There will also be some less common carols, including from Peru and Iceland, and William Walton’s modern-yet-ancient Make We Joy Now in This Fest.  Carols selected for the audience to sing along with the choir will include Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, Silent Night, and of course O Come All Ye Faithful

There will be refreshments afterwards so why not join us for a snack, a drink and a chat?

The Joubert Singers are Hunters Hill’s own community choir. They perform sacred and secular music from around the world, and from the distant past to the 21st century. The Joubert Singers’ Artistic Director, Rachelle Elliott, is renowned for her ability to enthuse her singers and delight audiences.

Admission $25, Concession $20 (Under 16s, pensioners, seniors)
