Karl Jenkins’ Symphonic Adiemus
14th September 2019, 7:30pm at HOTA, Home of the Arts, Gold Coast
To celebrate its 50th anniversary, the Gold Coast City Choir, accompanied by the Gold Coast Philharmonic Orchestra, will be performing this contemporary choral and orchestral masterpiece by the noted Welsh composer Sir Karl Jenkins.
Come and join us for an evening of celebration with this exciting and spectacular mixture of classical, jazz and world music.
Karl Jenkins is one of the most performed living composers, with over 250 performances per year of his work in more than twenty countries. He has consistently been the highest placed living composer in Classic FM’s Hall of Fame, and has received the prestigious Sir Charles Groves award for his contribution to music.
For the bulk of his early career Jenkins was known as a jazz and jazz-rock musician, turning to choral music later on. He is well known to choirs everywhere, and Symphonic Adiemus brings together some of the most iconic moments from his Adiemus series, which first appeared in 1995, in a new, enriched sound. This has transformed the works from female vocalists and ensemble, to a full four-part choir and orchestral arrangement for the first time, after overwhelming demand from choirs around the world.
The world premiere of this work was performed in September 2017 in London, while the Australian premiere took place in Melbourne in November 2018. January this year saw the US premiere in Carnegie Hall in New York, and the Gold Coast City Choir is excited to be bringing this inspiring work to the Gold Coast.
