4 March - Voices of Angels: Music for Vespers in a Renaissance Convent
Michele de Courcy and choir will present a concert of sublime music from the Renaissance convents. In 16th century Italy, going to hear the choir nuns sing Vespers was a very popular thing to do on a Sunday afternoon and people flocked to the convent churches to hear the voices of angels. This concert weaves chant, polyphony and dramatic spoken word presentations to explore the sublime, spiritually uplifting world of Renaissance convent music.
St Mary Magdalene's is an Anglican church in the heart of the city of Adelaide, an open, welcoming and inclusive Christian community. Founded in Moore Street in 1886, the church has been a constant presence in the city, having a commitment to social justice, and a special ministry to the poor and marginalised people of the city. St Mary Magdalene's church building is a beautiful little jewel, visually delightful and with a lovely acoustic well suited to vocal music. In 2018 the church community continues the popular tradition of hosting concerts as part of the Fringe Festival.
