Established in 1996 under the directorship of Anthony Heitmeyer, Counterpoint is a group of like minded friends who enjoy making music together. The choir has a maximum number of 24 singers (6 in each vocal part) which includes 4 student scholarship members. Currently directed by Karen Drury and accompanied by Tyler Dean-Brinkley and other members, the repertoire ranges from early madrigals to modern popular choral and includes the Australian premiere of Bob Chilcott's "I Share Creation" in 2007. Membership of Counterpoint is by invitation when a current member retires and a waiting list is maintained should no vacancy presently exist for a potential new member. Counterpoint performs thoughout the Hunter Valley of NSW and is based in Maitland.
