To make divine things human and human things divine: such is Bach, the greatest, purest moment in music of all time." (Pablo Casals) The Bach Society of Queensland Inc. (BSQ) was formed in 1971 as the dreamchild of Nancy Weir A.O., D.Mus., F.R.A.M., F.Q.C. who became its first patron. BSQ is supported by its sponsors and members, many of whom perform with BSQ's community choir. BSQ presents an annual program of four concerts. David Webster is our Music Director.
The concerts variously feature professional chamber orchestras and vocal soloists, the Music Director's narration and the community choir. BSQ also finds opportunities to engage virtuoso and emerging artists to work with the Music Director to perform the work of J.S Bach, his family, his contemporaries and precursors, including many works seldom performed in Brisbane.
The concerts are often performed in locations such as St Augustine's Church, Hamilton. Each November/December BSQ mounts a a performance of Handel's Messiah. A full chamber orchestra, soloists and the BSQ community choir are complemented by other community choristers who rehearse and perform this major choral work in the Dron Auditorium, St Peters Lutheran Coillege, Indooroopilly.
The Society welcomes new choristers. It is a non-auditioned community choir and new members are welcome to contact the Music Director about intentions/questions about joining. The joining tab on the website provides information about choir and general membership fees.
BSQ accepts tax deductible donations. It rents its concert risers and scores from its extensive library to other choirs. Concert diary, rehearsal information and practice aids (midi, mp3) are available on the website. Upcoming concerts are promoted on the website and via the Bach Society of Queensland Facebook page.
