Celebration Sing Out! 2024
ANCA members are invited to share the healing power of music with over 800 singers and a symphony orchestra, coming from all over NSW and beyond, to raise much needed funds for the Music Therapy Unit at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
Called Celebration Sing Out!, the massed charity gala at Sydney Town Hall, is in its 32nd year. Down beat for the 2024 concert is Sunday 27th October at 4pm.
Celebration Sing Out! this year features great and popular choruses accompanied by the Celebration Symphony Orchestra.
The headliner is a world premiere live performance of Australia’s favourite Classic 100 work, Beethoven Symphony No. 9, Finale: Ode to Joy. Significantly, it is a First Nations collaboration, set in Wiradjuri Language (Central Western New South Wales), as a gesture of joy, friendship and shared humanity. Also on the program are the Humming Chorus from Madam Butterfly and the Final Scene from Turandot. A grand finale with massed primary school choirs added to the SATB voices will be a Medley from Les Miserables.
The Celebration Sing Out! concerts have proudly raised over $1,000,000 since 1993. The musical driving force is the charismatic and indefatigable Mal Hewitt, OAM, who has a lifetime of experience in massed concerts, with Associate Music Director the dynamic Warren Fisher, Director of Choirs at Knox Grammar School, and a former member of the Australian Opera Chorus. Patron is Brett Weymark OAM, Artistic & Music Director of the Philharmonia Choirs.
Participation is facilitated by having with all scores and guide tracks online, and live workshops available in person, on YouTube Live and to view any time.
Music Therapy has a profound impact on the well-being of children enduring challenging procedures and lengthy stays in hospital, often a long way from their homes in regional and remote New South Wales and the island nations of the Pacific. Music Therapy is not funded through the health budget, so fundraising such as this is essential to ensure the provision of trained music therapists at the hospital.
