    As a music teacher, your voice is your most valuable tool, yet it’s often overlooked as an instrument that needs care and attention.  Join us for this essential 90-minute webinar presented by Dr Darren Wicks (music educator) and Dr Debbie Phyland (speech pathologist and music/theatre/opera voice consultant).

    Your Presenters:
    Dr. Darren Wicks is a distinguished voice educator, jazz pianist, and choral conductor with over 30 years of experience in the field of music education. Throughout his career, Darren has accumulated a vast wealth of knowledge, having worked in diverse roles including school music teacher, university lecturer, community music group leader, studio instructor, and conductor for both school and community choirs. His deep commitment to teacher education has also seen him regularly presenting at workshops and conferences.

    Darren holds a Master of Music Degree and a PhD in Vocal Pedagogy, reflecting his dedication to advancing the field of voice education. His academic journey has been enriched by extensive studies in voice teaching across the United States, where he has had the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from African American artists.

    As an author, Darren has contributed significantly to music education literature, with several publications to his name. His work continues to influence and inspire educators and students alike, making him a respected figure in the music education community.


    Dr Debbie Phyland is a speech pathologist, having primarily worked in acute hospital and private practice settings, universities lecturing and supervising and undertaking research. As well as being a co-founder and owner of the multi-disciplinary Melbourne Voice Analysis Centre team, Debbie is the principal speech pathologist (SP) for Voice Medicine Australia. She is appointed as Associate Professor for the School of Clinical Sciences, Monash University working part-time as Director of Clinical Research Director for the ENT, Head and Neck Department of Monash Health.
     
    Her research and clinical interests include gender-affirming voice care, laryngology, performance voice, occupational voice disorders, outcome measurement, voice assessment and rehabilitation.
